How to Care for Your Freshly-Cut Guse Christmas Tree
Keep the tree in a sheltered area (like a porch or a garage) to prectect it from the wind and sun.
Before you set up your tree, make a fresh 1/4-inch cut off the trunk. Place the tree in a stand that holds at least a gallon of water.
Keep the tree stand filled with water! A seal of dried sap will form over the stump if the water drops below the base of the tree, preventing the tree from taking up water.
A tree will absorb about a gallon of water in the first 24 hours, and about a quart per day thereafter. Water is important because it prevents drying and dropping-off of the needles. Water also keeps the tree fragrant.
Keep your tree away from heat and drafts (fireplaces, radiators, TVs, and doors.) Be sure your lights are in good working order. Be sure to unplug the lights before going to bed or leaving the house. Never overload electrical circuits.
What’s the best thing to add to the water in your tree stand? MORE WATER! Plain old tap water is the best thing for your tree.
